SERP
SERP stands for Search Engine Results Page — the page a search engine shows in response to a query.
The SERP is no longer a static list of blue links — a modern Google SERP contains AI Overview, featured snippets, People Also Ask, video carousels, image packs, knowledge panels, local packs, shopping blocks and ads. SERP composition differs per keyword. For SEO strategy: analyse not just what position is reachable but which SERP features you can win.
Example
SERP for 'best Bitcoin exchange': 4 ads, AI Overview with 3 citations, featured snippet from a comparison site, People Also Ask (6 questions), then standard results from position 1. Rank alone says nothing without context.
Frequently asked questions
Is the classic SERP dying?
Transforming, not dying. Google AI Mode and AI Overview reshape search behaviour, but classic links remain (well into 2026+).
