Hashrate
Hashrate is the total computing power contributed to the Bitcoin network, expressed in hashes per second — a measure of network security.
Hashrate is measured in exahashes per second (EH/s). In 2026 network hashrate sits at 700-900 EH/s — a vast number illustrating how un-hackable Bitcoin's consensus layer is. The higher the hashrate, the more expensive a 51% attack. Long-term hashrate rises structurally through more efficient ASICs.
Example
To execute a 51% attack at 800 EH/s you'd need 400+ EH/s of hardware — physically ~800,000 Antminer S21 Hyds and ~50 TWh/year of energy. Cost above $30 billion. Practically unreachable.
