TL;DR

On-page SEO covers all optimisations within the HTML of individual pages: titles, headings, content quality, internal links, media and schema.

On-page SEO is the layer you fully control per page. Structure: H1 + semantic heading hierarchy, meta title and description, intent-matched content, internal linking with descriptive anchor text, image alt, and schema markup. Good on-page often yields faster effect for new sites than link building.

Example

A company site has 50 pages with identical meta title ('{brand} — Welcome'). Rule: unique titles per page with keyword + value prop. CTR doubles within 8 weeks.
