Long-tail keyword
A long-tail keyword is a specific search phrase (typically 3+ words) with low search volume but much higher conversion potential and less competition.
Long-tail keywords form the long tail of the search distribution: individually little volume, collectively the web's largest share. Typical example: 'best SEO agency for fintech with GEO expertise in Breda' — small volume, very specific intent, high conversion. For startups and niche players, long-tail is often the only realistic path to organic traffic.
Example
Head keyword: 'buy Bitcoin' (50,000 searches/mo, unreachable). Long-tail: 'buy Bitcoin without KYC Netherlands 2026' (150 searches/mo, rankable, direct search-result intent).
Frequently asked questions
Do long-tails help for GEO?
Yes, strongly. AI engines often answer long, specific questions — and users type longer prompts in AI than in Google.
